My First Oil

My friend Dale visited over the holiday. I’ve known Dale since 7th grade. I’d given her some of my art a long time ago because it needed a home and the paintings were of her. This is my first oil painting. My grandfather had it for a lot of years before Dale got it. I posted a poor quality image of it earlier but was able to take a photo of it when Dale brought it with her for me to see once again. It was like seeing an old friend that I really didn’t know anymore.

White Umbrellas in Progress

I always post progression images on my FaceBook page. I thought I’d share one here that I’m currently working on. I’m calling it White Umbrellas but clearly they are not. They’re close enough to white. I really don’t want white in this painting although I’ll probably put some in.

Out of the Ashes

Some of my old high school friends recently found another of our friends – Laura. Laura reminded me that I drew a picture of her and our friend Sonja back then and she still has the drawing. I have no recollection of ever drawing them but I’ll quote the guy who said “it was the 60′s after all”. I do remember dong a lot of drawings like this using marker on anything I could find. One of my paintings was done on a board that a bakery cake sat on at one time. I used to work on anything I could put my hands on and I was not picky at all.

I do remember the patterns and strokes in this drawing. I made a lot of drawings in that style but this is the only that survives to my knowledge. I really appreciate Laura holding on to it all these years and sharing it with me now.

Night Tacos

A gumbo bar in Galveston, Texas. Love those colors. Had to paint them. The gumbo is incredible too.
