Portrait of the Artist as a Girl

One of my earliest canvases was my bedroom walls. All 4, including a window seat. My normally restrictive mother sent me to the paint store to pick out as many colors as I could find and then have at it on my walls. This was the 60s so the color selection was pretty lame but I did find a bright orange, pink and yellow. I hand-striped the walls with cut-out areas where I painted whatever popped into my head. The long wall was the best one and unfortunately I have no photos of it. I had all my best friends come over and do their thing on that wall. My mother was aggravated when she found we used black in places and it was really hard to cover up. And there were the places that we globbed on the paint. We did all that while blasting Sargent Pepper. Yeah that was the year.
